Ms. McClintock teaches physical education and health at Thomas Fleming School. She also organizes activities for the whole school like ice skating and the Dance Off, and celebrations like Cozy Day or Fort Day. Every morning, she goes on the announcements and says something different, like Funny Friday, where she tells jokes and gives the whole school a riddle to solve. Ms.McClintock hypes up the school community every day.
Ms McClintock does many things to bring the community together, but she also has daily responsibilities as a teacher.
While Ms. McClintock’s day at school starts around 6:45-7:00 a.m, her actual day begins a lot earlier. She wakes up at 4:30 am and goes to the Rice Memorial High School weight room. Then she sees Nurse Molly, her sister, on a morning walk.
Ms. McClintock shared that she starts every day with a dance party before she goes to school. “It gets me in a good mood, gives me energy, and gets me ready to take on the day.”
When Ms. McClintock arrives at school, she gets ready for her morning classes. At 7:27 a.m. she goes to the front door and greets the students who are arriving at school. She gives fist bumps and says good morning to the students.
Her main responsibilities during the day are teaching P.E. to all grades and Health to the 5th graders. She teaches six classes a day and has meetings with other teachers. During the classes, she makes sure students feel safe and part of the community. She also has to solve problems, such as a student injury and how to adjust a game so everyone can play. If two students are having a conflict, she helps them.
Another problem she has solved was bees. There was a bees’ nest in the gym vents, and they were flying around the gym during classes.
Before Ms. McClintock leaves for the day, she looks at her calendar to see what is planned for tomorrow. Her workday ends at 3p.m., but she might leave later depending on what activity is planned for the next day or if she has emails to answer.
Ms.McClintock likes to be silly and fun, so she has lots of equipment she can use to prank other staff.
Ms.McClintock solves problems, spreads positivity, and is really important to the Thomas Fleming School Community.
