After almost 19 years at Essex Junction Recreation & Parks, Brad Luck stepped down from his position as Recreation Director. Taking over the role is Mark Brislin, a longtime member of the EJRP team.
Brislin first served as the assistant director at EJRP from 2007 to 2013 and then returned to the position in 2022. Between 2013 and 2022, he worked as Parks and Recreation Director in Claremont, New Hampshire.
“I led a full department and focused more on planning, budgeting, and big-picture decisions,” Brislin said.
Back in Essex Junction, he shares that he balances both the operational and administrative sides of EJRP.
“It’s really a mix of both,” Brislin said. “I’m still connected to what’s happening day-to-day, but I’m also focused on the future—setting direction and making sure the department stays strong.”
Brislin gives credit to the community and the strong EJRP team for making this transition easier.
“Coming back a few years ago really helped. I already knew the community, the staff, and how things work. Working alongside Brad before stepping into this role also made the transition smoother. And honestly, having a great team makes a big difference—it’s a very collaborative group,” he said.
For Brislin, EJRP is more than just camps and programs. It’s a community.
“It’s where people of all ages come together—kids in camps, families at events, and adults staying active. I’ve been part of this department for a long time, and I take a lot of pride in it,” Brislin said. “We’re not just running programs—we’re creating experiences and connections people remember.”
He shared his hopes for EJRP in the future.
“My main goal is to keep building on what we already do well while continuing to grow,” Brislin said.
To achieve this, he plans to broaden programs and create more opportunities and ensure that the inner workings of EJRP thrives.
“That means for people to get involved, and making sure everything we offer is welcoming and inclusive,” he said. “I also want to keep supporting our staff and improving how we operate behind the scenes.”
