On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, Thomas Fleming Elementary School will hold its spring musical concert.
Fourth- and fifth-graders will perform in the band, chorus, and orchestra. The concert is located in Fleming’s gym from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm. Families are invited to watch their students sing and play songs.
If you are a parent who can’t make it to your kid’s concert, don’t panic. It will be recorded so that parents can see it even if they aren’t there.
The order of the event will be chorus first, then 1st-year strings, then 2nd-year strings, then 1st-year band, and then 2nd-year band. In chorus, the students pick songs that are upbeat and beautiful, often performing “rounds”, a type of song where people start singing at different times.
Ms Hurley, the music teacher, believes preparing for a concert is hard work but worth it.
“Learning notes and fingerings, remembering parts, and practicing together takes teamwork.” Ms Hurley said. “All the small details and choosing music that is at the right level that can be executed well, but still able to work within our time frame, takes a lot of planning and thinking early on. Once the music is selected, the rest of the planning is in the details.”
Ms Hurley also believes that the students are very proud when the concert is finished.
“I also love seeing everything come together after so many weeks of practicing,” she said. “I also like the moment when it clicks, and music becomes something that makes the students happy.”
Skylar Marino is a second-year band trombonist student who will be performing at the concert.
“I like the band because I get to play my instrument and get better at it,” Marino said. “I’m excited for the band but not the chorus because I personally don’t really like it.”
This will be the last Fleming concert of the school year, and all families with students performing should try to make it!
