At Thomas Fleming School, 5th-grade lunch can be a chaotic time of the school day. 5th-graders can be super loud and get out of their seats without permission. People’s food gets spilled when they dump their trays, making the floor super messy.
The ceiling tiles reflect voices, which doubles the volume. Other students try talking over other people, stacking the voices even more. It’s overall a mess with everyone walking to different tables, spilling their food, and shouting.

Sawyer Wallace, one of the 5th graders in Ms. Guntulis’s class, stated his thoughts on the cafeteria, “As a 5th grader, it’s very annoying to be around a bunch of other people who sometimes follow the rules, but not always.”
One of the lunch ladies at the cafeteria, Melanie Duluee, explains how she thinks 5th graders behave at lunch.
“Fifth grade is definitely one of the better grades,” Duluee said. “They are also one of the bigger grades and really kind and courteous.”
Some people might say 5th-grade lunch is really crazy, despite being the oldest grade at Thomas Fleming.
