During the holiday season, Chittenden County puts its best foot forward to create a jolly atmosphere. Here are some events worth checking out during the season to brighten your holiday spirits.
Winter Lights in the Park is an event hosted by the Essex Junction Parks and Recreation Department (EJRP) within Maple Street Park. At the event, you can take a walk at your own pace through trees and tunnels decorated with thousands of lights. The lights are a staple within the city of Essex, and are a fairly popular event. They will stay up until January 1st, every day from 5 PM to 9 PM.
Another event hosted by EJRP is the Train Hop on December 12th, 2025. The purpose of the event is to shine a light on the small businesses of Essex and create a social opportunity for the community. Attendees will be given a map. They are encouraged to get it stamped by the businesses involved. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride around the park, Big Blue Trunk, marvel at the festive lighted trees, and experience a visit from the iconic SD Ireland Cement truck.
The Winter Lights at Shelburne Museum is a display of colorful lights. The event, running through January 4th, does require tickets, which can be purchased on the website. The event displays an array of colorful lights, which you are free to walk around and see at your own pace. The museum features the famous 220-foot Ticonderoga sitting in a floating sea of lights. A cafe is present on the grounds for holiday treats and a warm hot cocoa.
