Chicago is a famous Broadway musical set in Chicago during the Jazz Age. The story is about rivals, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, murderesses who are desperate for fame, and competing for the attention of lawyer Billy Flynn.
Brit Flynn, the high school’s theater director, shared that Chicago is the biggest show they have ever taken on from a dance perspective, with the most numbers and the hardest choreography.
“I love spending every day creating this story with the students even on days when we work on more challenging scenes or dances or musical numbers,” Flynn said.
Roxie Hart will be portrayed by senior Ava Krieter, Velma Kelly by sophomore Amelia Machanic, and Billy Flynn by junior Miles Kulakowski. Other roles can be found below.

“I am so excited to share this show with the school, my family, and my friends,” Krieter said. “We all work so hard for this show and pour our hearts into it. We’ve been working on this show for a long time and always appreciate everyone coming.”
Show dates for Chicago: Teen Edition are November 20th through the 22nd in the Essex High School auditorium; ticket information and showtimes can be found here.
“I hope audiences are both entertained and provoked to ponder,” said Flynn. “…And of course that they enjoy the show!”
