The American Red Cross will be hosting a Blood Drive at Essex High School on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the gym to honor William O’Neil, a former coach, teacher, and community member. This cause was very important to him and he held it close to his heart so we are keeping it close to ours. Students, staff, and community members are invited to participate and help save lives while remembering a beloved community member this holiday season.
Donating blood is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to make a difference. Every donation can help hospitals provide life-saving care to patients in need. The Red Cross encourages donors with blood types O, B-, or A- to consider making a Power Red donation, which collects red blood cells, the most commonly transfused blood component, and helps twice as many patients.
Don’t let this discourage you if you do not have one of these blood types because everyone who’s healthy and meets the requirements can give blood or platelets, no matter their blood type. If you have AB blood, you might be encouraged to give plasma donations, since AB plasma can be used for anyone.
To streamline your experience, you can complete your health questions ahead of time using RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass. Donors who give between November 17 and December 7 will also receive an exclusive pair of Red Cross x PAC-MAN socks, while supplies last.
