Student Government has started the year off strong. Through the course of nine committee meetings and two full block meetings, we have passed 14 proposals and 11 bills, all of which have gained approval by admin.
Finnian and I met with Superintendent Holodick early on in the year to welcome him into the school and share our agenda for the year with him. We talked a lot with him about student engagement, something we are trying to build this year. There has already been great attendance at fall sporting events, and we hope to continue to build this community all throughout the school.

The Homecoming Dance has been two years in the making and was finally brought back this year. It was a huge success across the board: from the DJ to the decorations and the food. Student Gov decided to allow students to pay with canned items this year to give to Aunt Dot’s food shelf. In total, 271.15 lbs of food were donated.
We have already expanded our actions into the community by helping out at a number of events including Essex Community Day and the EJRP Trick or Trail Event. We have also been active in school, helping at Open House Night and carrying out an amazing spirit week.
We are currently working on fulfilling a bill where Student Gov would host movie nights that all EHS and CTE students are welcome to attend. Another goal this year was to build civic engagement within the school. Student Gov is in contact with local representatives, where we hope to create a guest speaker series throughout the year for students to attend.

Student Gov is always looking for new ideas and feedback on how we can do better. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to [email protected] or contact me directly at [email protected].
