Students Demand Action Collect Donations for Steps to End Domestic Violence

Lily Larsen, Staff Writer

Essex High School’s chapter of Students Demand Action will be hosting a supply drive from January 25th to February 10th. These materials will be donated to survivors of domestic violence living in Vermont.

SDA is helping support survivors due to the connection between domestic violence and gun ownership. 4.5 million women have reported being threatened by a gun, and 1 million living today have reported being shot at by their partner. Up to 70 women a month die by gun violence at the hands of their domestic partners. Through STEPS to End Domestic Violence, an organization dedicated to helping those affected, SDA successfully hosted this same supply drive last year.

There will be donation bins accepting a range of items set up in the main lobby. This includes toothbrushes, cough drops, sponges, and many other items (full list below). With these necessities, the goal is to help those impacted by domestic violence, including their children and those around them, with the transition into a safer and more independent life.
