Belladonna by Adalyn Grace, is a fictional murder mystery book following Signa Farrow, a 19-year-old who seems to defy Death himself. After her parents died, Signa was shuffled around her family, hoping to find at least one decent person to stay with. But every relative cares for her money, not for her actual wellbeing. After her latest caregiver dies, Signa’s holding on to her last string of hope, her last connection to family — the Hawthorne’s.
As soon as she arrives she finds her cousin Blythe nearly on her deathbed. The family would be shattered by Blythe’s death as they have already lost Lillian Hawthorne, Signa’s aunt, to what appears to be the same illness that Blythe is dying from. When Lillian’s spirit approaches Signa, claiming that she was poisoned, Signa forms an unlikely alliance with Death to stop Lillian’s murderer and save Blythe before it’s too late.
Belladonna is not for everyone, but if you enjoy the personification of Death (and other entities), then it’s definitely one that you should try. If you do enjoy it, there are two other books in the series that come after Belladonna — Foxglove and Wisteria.
