BULB is Back

BULB will be making a comeback for people hoping to graduate in 2023. Personal learning plans on BULB are once again a requirement for graduation. Seniors at EHS might remember a time when advisory was less slideshow and more BULB, but the PLPs disappeared after the 2020 lockdown. The platform was used throughout the school as a way for kids to develop their personal learning plans. Since the lockdown, they have been on no one’s minds except for the occasional, “Wait, do we still need a PLP to graduate?” followed by the collective confusion of whatever group you’re in.

For those who don’t remember BULB, we asked students to share their memories of the website.

Wes Pitcher spoke on the issue stating, “I am traumatized by BULB, plus the website always crashed on me.” Pitcher grew aggravated when The Hive continued to ask more questions and responded, “Stop trying to talk to me, I’m doing this puzzle.”

Riley Hennessey, a senior at EHS asked, “What is a BULB?” It should be noted she said the phrase ‘BULB’ very slowly with a confused look on her face.

Most students responded with vague recollections or puzzled expressions.

The Hive also checked with the advisory attendance record from the days of BULB who stated, “I’ve never seen so many advisory absences, and that’s saying a lot.”

Since the old BULB had many issues such as crashing all the time, the school has opted for a better version of BULB. BULB+ introduces better templates for only $2/month per student. Instead of questions like “Where do you see yourself in 20 years?” upgraded templates feature questions like “How do you see yourself in 20 years?” Experts say the updated language really helps kids dig deep.

“In 20 years I will be proud if I have finished college,” said my own “About Me” section.

Speaking of, remember the “About Me” section? Well, you better get to work because students must complete their BULB by a certain date in time.

To better understand this sudden change from a different perspective, The Hive emailed teachers to learn more. That’s it, no one responded.

To submit your BULB, maybe turn them in on Google Classroom? We actually have no idea.

If you find yourself stressed about this new policy, don’t worry, SMART goals are not a requirement.
