Essex High will hold its second annual Multicultural Festival on Friday, May 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the EHS gymnasium.
EHS PE teacher, Tracey Muzerall (Muzz), is the lead organizer of the festival; however, there’s a whole team of people working behind the scenes, including National Honor Society students. Senior volunteer Samantha Donahey praises Muzerall’s hard work.
“Muzz has worked so hard both last year and this year, and we’re all so thankful for her for bringing this event to our community,” Donahey said.
The festival will feature Nepali, Cuban, Irish, Tibetan dance demonstrations, and Scottish, Russian, Italian, German, and African music.
“The intention behind the festival is to bring people together to celebrate the rich diversity we have within our community,” Muzerall said. “We want to bring about curiosity, compassion, and empathy to learn about each other’s background through food, art, music, and crafts in a meaningful way.”
Stations and tables with different culture-specific activities such as crafts, calligraphy, face painting and games. The event includes a potluck incorporating dishes from individuals across the community.
