On Mar. 13, the Essex Girls’ Varsity Hockey team beat Bellows Free Academy St. Albans 5-1 for the Division 1 state championship for the first time since 2018.
With two goals from senior Taylor Senecal, three from sophomore Calleigh Bruyns, and over 15 deflections from senior goalie Sarah Krauss and freshman goalie Morgan Hughart, they dominated the rink.
The energy in the arena was completely unmatched with constant chants and so much cheering from the EHS student section.

Calleigh Bruyns is one of three Division 1 girls to ever score three goals in a championship game.
“It was awesome. I didn’t figure out I was the third person to get a hat trick in the championship, so I was really surprised,” Bruyns said. “It was a great feeling to win the championship because we worked really hard to get there, and we were the underdogs.”
