Gayle Botelho is the new EHS girls’ basketball coach for 2024-2025 season. Botelho is also a vice principal at EHS and will serve in the two roles simultaneously.
“I have the opportunity to continue what Coach Montague has created: an amazing program,” Botelho said. “I hope to continue building and growing girls’ basketball at EHS and at the youth level in EWSD.”
“I have been with players since July 1st, so we have played summer league, summer workouts and training, fall league, and now open gyms,” Botelho said. “I am feeling good about where things are right now.”
Botelho said that just talking about basketball is exciting for her. She also said that she’s looking forward to getting in the gym and coaching.
“I am putting a lot of pressure on myself to be able to bring them where they want to be as a player and a team,” Botelho said. “I was fortunate to have amazing high school and college basketball coaches, I’m looking to provide the same opportunities for these players as well,” she said.
Former coach, Shawn Montague, is very excited for Botelho to take over.
“She has been around the game for a long time and has great knowledge,” Montague said. “More importantly, she is great with students in our building. That will no doubt transfer to coaching.”
Montague also believes that Botelho will be a great role model for the team.
”I’m excited for the girls to have a female coach,” Montague said. “To have someone coaching them who is a strong positive female is great.”
