Are you looking for an EGGcelent breakfast sandwich at EHS? Then The Hive has you covered.

Mason Meirs, Staff Writer

I’m a semi-regular in the EHS breakfast line. I get a coffee and a breakfast sandwich some mornings. During this time, I’ve gathered some opinions about the different varieties of breakfast sandwiches. Here are my reviews of each one, followed by my final thoughts.

Sausage and Cheese (Bagel and Croissant): The sausage is off-putting. The absence of egg leaves more to be desired. Even the holy croissant can’t save this one.

Rating: 3/10

Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on Bagel: This one is so close to greatness. Sometimes, the bagel can be a little chewy, and the Canadian bacon definitely takes this one down a few notches. Normal bacon would take this one to a 9 or 10 out of 10. Other than that, it’s definitely a fine choice.

Rating: 6/10

Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on Croissant: Definitely one of the best ones. The croissant actually fits the size of the disc of egg, and even though it still has Canadian bacon, the croissant masks out the taste somewhat. This one is definitely preferred, and you get fewer bites of only bagel.

Rating: 8/10

Egg and Cheese on Bagel: I might prefer this one to the “baconed” equivalent depending on the mood. Besides that, not much to write about.

Rating: 7/10

Egg and Cheese on Croissant: I rarely get this variant, usually, only once the Bacon edition is sold out. It’s a solid breakfast sandwich, improving upon the Egg and Cheese on a bagel.

Rating: 7.5/10

EHS Shiner (Egg, Hashbrown, and Cheese) on Bagel: This one is very good, the crispy hash brown makes this one blow all of the others out of the water. I normally seek this one out when possible, and I welcome the new variety to the EHS breakfast sandwich family.

Rating: 9/10

EHS Shiner (Egg, Hashbrown, and Cheese) on Croissant: I’m convinced that this is perfection. Everything great about the EHS Shiner has been introduced to the croissant. Something like this could only be conceived by a god-like being.

As it first arrives to you, in its aluminum foil casing, you unsheath it from its cage to behold one of the best food items served by any public school in the United States. The crispy, salty hashbrown blends perfectly with the rich egg and cheese. It feels like I’m eating a whole breakfast meal in one sandwich. Yet, I could easily eat two of these every morning.

Rating: 10/10

Final Thoughts: I think the bagel varieties of the sandwiches could be improved by a larger egg. It doesn’t fully conform to the size of the bagel. The bacon, egg, and cheese can be improved with normal bacon instead of Canadian bacon. Other than those minor gripes, these breakfast sandwiches are very appreciated. Thank you to the EHS food services staff for these sandwiches.
